Chatbot’s whether we realize it or not have become a common facet of our day-to-day lives. Just like how we call customer care for assistance, today these bots have become our personal assistants. They are typically artificial intelligence that interact with us through a voice or text interface. Some chatbots use sophisticated natural language processing systems, but many simpler systems scan for keywords within the input, then pull a reply with the most matching keywords, or the most similar wording pattern, from database .For instance if the user types in the word “car” , the bot would most likely ask “Which model is your car?” or “Can I know about your car?” . They are equipped to handle various queries ranging from parking tickets, paying bills, shopping on an online store and much more. Interestingly, companies and businesses today have already deployed bots or intend on deploying them in the near future to make their work more efficient. Chatbot’s can be used to answer basic requests of customers  such as for providing delivery status’s , scheduling appointments, answering common user questions, and providing simple automated services during the hours when a business is closed.

Some of the top Chatbot’s used are :

  • DoNotPay – Legal Assistance
  • Lara – Dating Chatbot
  • Duolingo – Learn New Language
  • Mashreq Bot – Banking
  • Rammas – DEWA

The Dubai government makes use of Chatbot’s in DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority), customers ask “Rammas” which uses artificial neural networks, also has the ability to learn and understand customers’ needs, based on the most common questions. It is developed to communicate in both Arabic and English. Rammas is available on Dewa’s website, and works on Dewa’s smart app (iOS and Android). It is also available on Dewa’s Facebook and Amazon’s Alexa service.

But another concept that could be more aiding are Home bots, which would not just give answers to our queries but also provide timely information when needed such as “It’s time to have lunch”. Such smart home technology functions akin to the human central nervous system. There could be different home bots performing tasks based on their computing power. Some can function as assistants or companions, others as coaches, house hold managers, wealth planners and accountants. However this level of improvement provides wide range of opportunities and threats at the same time. Amazon’s Alexa has the capacities for voice interaction , setting alarms, formulating a to-do-list, playing music and audio-books, providing weather, traffic, sports, and other real-time information. Alexa can also control several smart devices using itself as home automation system. Users can extend the Alexa capabilities by installing “skills” (additional functionality developed by third-party vendors.

Bots, have proved to be very aiding as it helps businesses to remain efficient and at the same time it allows us to make more smarter choices in shorter duration, as their capacities to analyze is much quicker.
