There’s a new Google text adventure you can play to beat the boredom. Google is known for hidden Easter eggs inside products, and the latest is a text adventure game inside Google.com. The game was first highlighted by the website RockPaperShotgun. The game can be easily found by anyone who knows the secret method for this.
Players will need Google Chrome in order to access the game. After opening Chrome, navigate directly to Google.com. Once on Google’s homepage, users must search for ‘text adventure.’ Once the search results page has loaded, press CTRL+SHIFT+J, or CMD+Option+J on Mac systems. A window should pop up on the right side of the page, and if done correctly, the game will appear and provide a prompt to type ‘yes’ to play. After typing yes in the bottom text field of the window, text will appear directing the player to the game’s scenario. It’s up to the player to find all the letters of Google that have gone missing.
For those unfamiliar with old-school text adventure games, all of the commands used are entered as text. One can move from room to room by choosing a directional command from the available exits listed at the bottom of the screen. For example, the game may list the opportunity to move ‘down, up, and west.’ The player can then simply type in any one of those directions (no secondary command like ‘move’ is required) and their character will respond accordingly. If the available directions have disappeared off the screen, they can be retrieved by typing ‘exits.’
The text adventure game also gives hints on possible exits and paths you can take. The game by itself seems complicated, but it is addictive and once you start moving the character around, it gets easier to understand. For those who like puzzles, you might find yourself addicted pretty soon. And if not, well there’s always the dinosaur game on the Chrome browser.
